How do I connect a 3-pin fan to an old M/B?

Most of old M/B's do not have a 3-pin connector on the board, therefore, you need a 3-pin to 4-pin connector kit to connect the fan to the Power Supply connector.

What is the pin function of the 3-pins fan?

Pin 1 / Black or Green color => Ground Pin
Pin 2 / Red color => Power Input Pin
Pin 3 / Yellow, Blue or White color => Fan Speed Output

Why is my CPU temperature so high?

There are number of reasons why there is high CPU temperature. The most common is caused by using an under-performed heatsink. Additionally, poor case ventilation also causes high CPU temperature.

What is a safe CPU temperature?

Generally, AMD's Athlon and Duron CPU can withstand 90C and the Intel Pentium 4 can withstand 70C.

Is it safe to power the 5000RPM fan directly from the motherboard?

While some motherboard does provide enough Current for a high speed fan, it is critical for the user make sure before use. If you are unsure, it is always safe to power the fan from the Power Supply Unit.
